Elephant Royale attracts a loyal crowd of Wharf suits, locals and people who appreciate a good location. In the summer, the big decked terrace overlooking the Thames gets packed with people just enjoying the view over a beer or cocktail. Inside, the effort that's clearly gone into conjuring an exotic atmosphere succeeds; there's a certain charm to the tropical plants and flowers, carvings, and the fish-filled stream that runs the length of the restaurant. Dressed in the Thai national costume, waiting staff are authentically keen and polite. A long and tempting menu lists the tastiest Thai classics - tom yum soup, spicy salads, red and green curries, rice and noodle dishes - all carefully garnished. Top marks all round.
