Barnsdale Gardens are the creation of Geoff Hamilton, Britains best loved television gardener and presenter of BBC TV's Gardener's World weekly gardening programme, which Geoff presented from his home at Barnsdale in Rutland.
Since Geoff's death in 1996, his gardens have been open to the public & include a nursery of choice & unusual plants, mainly propagated from the gardens.
Barnsdale features a vast number of spectacular themed gardens, such as:
Ornamental Kitchen Garden - Built for the television series of the same name, this was the first garden to bring the concept of growing flowers, fruit and vegetables together to the viewer. The idea that fruit and vegetables have ornamental values as well as edible ones, with the plants still being cropped as usual means a planned planting schedule is vital.
The Rose Garden - For many years this part of the garden was overgrown as the rest bloomed, until Geoff decided he wanted a garden to show off many different varieties of roses. There are over fifty varieties of roses in this garden and they have been complemented by underplanting which gives this garden year-round interest.
