Set against the foothills of the Blue Mountains and flanked by the Nepean River, the Penrith Lakes Scheme covers an area of 2000 hectares.
When completed it will include five major recreational lakes and a series of smaller lakes covering an area of about 1/3 the size of Sydney Harbour, offering swimming boating and other water sports.
The Penrith Lakes Scheme is the result of three quarry companies working together to achieve the co-ordinated extraction and rehabilitation of a flood plain north of Penrith.
55kms of foreshore and 11kms of walking tracks along the Nepean River make up 66kms of proposed public access tracks.
