Portchester Castle an English Heritage building built in the early 12th century provide a fantastic exhibition with a wide range of archaeological artefacts and an interactive audio tour.
The castle accessed via drawbridge has a huge amount of history, originally used by the Romans as a base from which they could clear the sea of barbarian raiders, it then became a Saxon settlement from the middle of the 5th century until the end of the 9th century. The castle was then built on the grounds in the early 12th century, from then on the castle went through many battles, saw many Kings and was even rebuilt in 1396.
The castles facilities include a car park with toilets catering for disabled and a shop which includes a range of refreshments.
