Swift might well have been inspired to write this after one of his visits to the Old Inn, and certainly CS Lewis mentioned it often in his diaries. As one of Ireland's oldest hostelries, with records dating back to 1614, the Inn has played host to many notable visitors, both famous and infamous. Peter the Great, Tsar of Russia, legendary highwayman Dick Turpin and former US President George Bush (Senior) are among the many weary travellers who have lodged and dined under its thatched roof.
Today the centuries-old tradition of hospitality is as strong as ever. You can sink into a comfortable chair by a cosy fire and savour the mellow atmosphere of beamed ceilings, wood panelled walls and the timeless elegance that is the Old Inn.
