The architect Sir John Soane's house, museum and library has been a public museum since the early 19th century. A professor of Architecture at the Royal Academy, Soane opened his home and negotiated an act to preserve his house and collection to the benefit of the public.
The museum contains a wealth of paintings, casts, furniture and antiquities from the 18th century through to the Medieval, Renaissance and Egyptian eras. Wonderfully preserved and maintained this museum is a delight.
