Degembris, near Newquay in Cornwall, inspires imagination of former times, remaining an unspoilt gem of Cornish history. Built on the site of Degembris Manor, the earliest recorded date is 1241 as Tygembres, changing to Degembrys in 1461. The present farmhouse was built in the 16th to early 17th century of Kellas and Elvan with additions in the late 18th century.
This delightful Grade II Listed Building, with its low beams and seasonal log fires, nestles in a south-facing hillside overlooking a beautiful wooded valley. The Farmhouse also features an unusual slate hung exterior and is surrounded by an attractive garden. The Woodley family are first mentioned in 1893 with successional owners to the present day, namely Roger and Kathy.
Set in superb countryside yet close to the sea, Degembris is also at the centre of Cornwall, with journeys to either end of the county only taking 50 minutes by car. The south coast can be reached in half an hour and the north coast taking a few minutes. The farm trail is about a mile long and makes its way through corn fields and woodland, some new, some old.
