While in the Hunter Valley region, visit Grossmann House. The successful merchant Isaac Beckett built this substantial townhouse between 1870 and 1871. Located in one of NSW's finest mid-Victorian streetscapes the house stands as testimony to the confidence of mercantile Maitland, once one of Australia's great commercial cities.

Beautifully furnished, the house adjoins the Maitland City Art Gallery. The building was opened to the public in 1966, after extensive restoration work, as a house museum. This was the second house museum established by the National Trust of Australia (NSW).

The Grossmann House is open Thursday-Sunday from 10am-3pm. Guided Tour & morning or afternoon tea are available from $9. Tour & lunch - $12.

Special Features
Following further work under the Commonwealth Federation Cultural & Heritage Projects Program, Grossmann House now reflects a period of occupancy and is furnished as a mid-Victorian gentleman's townhouse. Significantly, many of the objects are provenance to the Hunter Region. The property also has a rich costume and textile collection that is displayed in the first floor exhibition space. Grossmann House features the only operational gas lighting in a house in public ownership in New South Wales together with wallpapers painstakingly recreated from documentary evidence. Grossmann House is located in Church Street, Maitland.
