The Alberti Gallery was set up in 1990 by owner Tim Bruce-Dick who specialises in the sale of Contemporary Russian and East European Art. Most of the featured artists are graduates from outstanding schools of art in their native countries.
Many hail from the renowned Repin Academy established by Catherine the Great in St Petersburg 200 years ago. Students learn the skills of icon restoration and the techniques of the Renaissance Masters, which in turn influences their contemporary work.
The state authorities placed restrictions on the subject matter and style of painting to 'social realism' during the Soviet regime. A dynamic fresh approach has been born by these artists who wish to reaffirm their own style, showing for their individual roots.
Most of the artists work in their native countries and exhibit work in London and the USA. Works showcases a variety of disciplines from small watercolours and pen drawings through to large oil paintings.
