Romantic ruins, award-winning gardens and one thousand years of history are among the many reasons to visit Sudeley Castle, which nestles in the Cotswold Hills in the historic town of Winchcombe, Gloucestershire.
Today it's the private home of Lord and Lady Ashcombe, Henry and Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst and their families. Their apartments can be visited on Connoisseur Tours (selected days).
2012 marks the Quincentenary of the birth of Tudor Queen, Katherine Parr. The sixth wife of King Henry VIII, she lived at Sudeley and is entombed in St Marys. We'll be celebrating her extraordinary life with a Dr David Starkey film introducing a new exhibition; talks; Tudor Fun Days; archery; literary events and plenty more.
There are ten gardens to visit. The highlight is the Queens Garden which billows with blooms during Rose Week in June. We have a new Wildlife Trail, featuring barn and snowy owls, a peasantry and giant fort for children. There's also a picnic area, cafe and shop.
