An award winning Lace Museum displaying all the five main types of lace made in Ireland containing a collection of Youghal Needlelace, Inishmacsaint Needlelace, Crochet, Limerick and Carrickmacross. Crochet lace is worked with a very small fine steel hook with a handle of bone, cork or wood. The best crochet lace is always very firmly and evenly worked. Awards include twice winning 'Gulbenkin Most Improved Museum of the year' and Commendation in the 'British Airways Tourism Awards'.
Items on display include several wedding dresses, wedding veils, shawls, parasols, collars, bonnets, christening gowns etc Sheelin antiques specialise in selling Irish lace and linens.
The Museum houses a shop where visitors can buy completely unique items of antique lace and linen. Books on lacemaking, hand crafts, postcards and other souvenirs can be bought as well as other select items. The Sheelin Restaurant also on site - 200 year old thatched building offering lunches, evening meals and refreshments.
