Home to the cartoonist Edward Linley Sambourne and his family from 1874, Linley Sambourne House, 18 Stafford Terrace is a unique example of a late Victorian townhouse that survives today with almost all of its furniture and fittings intact.
The house was extensively restored and refurbished between 2000 and 2003. It now contains a visitor reception and education space in the newly converted basement, a shop and cloakroom facilities, educational resources for schools and a specially commissioned video introducing the house and the Sambourne family.
All visits to the house are by guided tour only with set tour times on Saturdays and Sundays and at other times by appointment. Weekend tours are led by an actor in period costume, providing a compelling insight into the lives of the Sambourne family. Visits last approximately one and a half hours. Each tour will be preceded by a brief video introduction.
