The Whitechapel Art Gallery was founded in 1901 and is located in the East End of London, which is renowned for its thriving art community. The gallery is famed for showcasing dynamic and provocative, international contemporary art exhibitions.
Whitechapel exhibits art from both Britain and abroad, work by up-and-coming artists, as well as established contemporary artists and artists from the earlier part of the century whose work remains relevant. The work shown encompasses all art mediums, with constantly changing exhibitions featuring, sculpture, painting, digital media, photography and installation.
As well as holding exhibitions Whitechapel runs education activities and a programme of films and talks and events, including Friday and Thursday late night events with a selection of performances, poetry and music.
The Whitechapel offers spaces for a wide range of events, with the option of hiring the galleries separately or together. The new café/bar has been designed as a multi-functional space, which serves fresh food throughout the day or can be transformed into the ideal setting for a private party, launch or dinner in the evening.
