The Robert Burns Centre tells the story of Robert Burns' last years spent in the bustling streets and lively atmosphere of Dumfries in the late eighteenth century. The centre is situated in the town's eighteenth century watermill on the west bank of the River Nith.
Scotland's National Bard spent much of his adult life in and around Dumfries, dying here aged just 37, and was active and outspoken in the local community. Robert Burns Centre has a fascinating scale model of Dumfries in the 1790s, as well as many original manuscripts and belongings of the poet. There is a haunting audio-visual presentation, museum trails and fun activities. The shop has a wide selection of Scottish books, gifts and keepsakes, local craft work and foods. There is a lively exhibition programme of work by local artists and an award winning restaurant.
The Robert Burns Centre is open year round and admission is free.
