Southwark Cathedral

Southwark Cathedral is London's oldest Gothic Church building, with many historical links. There are a wealth of interesting memorials contained in the cathedral, including an archaeological chamber holding the remains of a roman road, foundations of the Anglo Saxon church and pottery kilns.

The Cathedral is located in a blossoming business centre but nonetheless attracts thousands of people each year and is the setting for a wide variety of services and other events, such as consecrations, memorials, celebrations, school and college services, presentation and degree ceremonies and recitals. The Cathedral has a fine musical tradition and a society of bell ringers.

The Cathedral shop sells a wide range of gifts, souvenir, cards and books. The Refectory serves an eclectic, delicious, choice of healthy food and provides all the catering for the Cathedral's conference facilities and private dining and parties. The conference centre has four rooms available for private or corporate hire. They run an adult education programme, as well as a education programme linked to the national curriculum.

Services take place every Monday to Friday at the following times:8.00am Morning Prayer, 8.15am Eucharist, 12.30pm Midday Office, 12.45pm Eucharist, 5.30pm Evensong (sung on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and alternate Mondays). On Saturdays and Bank Holidays services are held as follows 9.00am Morning Prayer, 9.15am Eucharist, 4.00pm Evensong (sometimes sung by visiting choirs).
