The Dripping Spring dates back to 1840 and is probably the oldest pub in the St Leonards area. The pub stands on the junction of Tower road and Spring Street. The spring rises in nearby Alexander Park and flows in a culvert under the pub, which has a large cellar.
The house stands on a modest incline but at one time the pavement was terraced. The rain water would run along the pavement then drip down the steps. It is felt that the pub may have been called The Spring with the Dripping added at some later date.
The pub continues to serve as many different Real Ales from as many different breweries as possible. There are normally three regular beers plus four guest ales available on hand pump at any time. In addition a mini beer festival is held on the last weekend of each month with approximately 15 different beers available.
