The Royal Festival Hall and the adjoining Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room attract huge crowds, who flock to watch the diverse programme showcasing everything from classical orchestral concerts to ballet, films to opera, poetry to art and the London Jazz Festival.
Regular dance events take place including the Dance Umbrella performances in the autumn and the International Mime Festival in January. The two-week Summer on the South Bank festival encompasses workshops and performances of every possible type of dance.
The foyers of the Royal Festival Hall are open 364 days a year and attract 2.5 million visitors annually, who come to enjoy the daily free musical entertainment which takes place from 12.30 to 2.00. Music ranges from solo recitals to jazz bands and the early evening Commuter Jazz slot on Fridays is a popular way to get the weekend swinging.
The Royal Festival Hall runs a diverse education programme, giving students the opportunity to learn more about the art and artists who perform, as well as the chance to create art and performance and to discuss it. The shop in the main foyer stocks a wide selection of books, music and arts-related gifts, cards and wrapping paper.
