Winchester Palace is an ancient monument managed by the English Heritage. The building was originally part of the great hall of Winchester Palace, built in the early 13th century and once towered over the River Thames.
The palace was the residence of the Bishops of Winchester, including the striking rose window still intact that adorns the west gable. The palace remained until the 18th century when it was divided into warehouses before being destroyed by fire in 1814.
The remains can still be viewed from the street, throughout the entire year, at any reasonable time or day of the week.
