The Britain at War Experience gives you the closest possible insight into what life was like for civilians in WW2. See film footage in the London Underground air-raid shelter. Tune into the latest radio broadcasts and hear messages from Churchill and read the wartime news. Catch a glimpse of wartime stars and pin-ups and learn about the women working for the war effort. See real bombs and even hear one ticking. Find out how people coped with rationing and the transportation of evacuees.
The museum runs a National Curriculum based education programme, which includes special 'dressing up' sessions for school parties, including tin helmets, gasmasks and uniforms and free preliminary visits are available for teachers to help with planning visits.
Britain at War is an exciting and educational adventure for all ages and ends with a walk through the London blitz. Visits take approximately 1 to 1-1/2 hours. This permanent exhibition is open all year round, 7 days a week from 10am-5.00pm October-March and 10am-6.00pm April - September, except for December 24-26.
