National Waterfront Museum is a celebration of Welsh industrial achievement over the last 250 years. There are some large working exhibits such as a replica of the world's first steam locomotive (built in 1803 by Richard Trevithick), a 28-tonne rolling steel mill, a brick press and the Robin Goch monoplane, built by a Cardiff engineer in 1907.
Highlights include the 36 state-of-the-art interactive displays, including a 360-degree virtual view of the whole Swansea area, another display showing the development of Wales' transport networks from drovers' roads to motorways and a chance to tour into the city's houses on the day of a census made in 1851. A hundred people who have helped to make Wales the country it is, from Trevithick and German engineer Charles Siemens (who gained British citizenship in 1859) to Laura Ashley and rugby star Gareth Edwards, feature on another interactive wall.
