City Hall is open to the public from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and also on occasional weekends, however all visitors must go through a security check on entering the building.
The building was designed by leading architects Foster and Partners, to become a new landmark for the capital. The 2nd floor can be visited with a view of the Assembly Chamber where many public meetings are held, with seating for 250 members of the public.
The art gallery is a hidden wonder, located in base of City Hall, under the imposing glass structure that houses the Greater London Assembly and the Mayor of London. There are a number of exhibitions that run throughout the year, that are free to visit.
All of London is at your feet in City Hall's Visitor Centre, where the London Photomat is installed. The London Photomat shows an aerial view of the whole of Greater London in precise detail, with recognisable individual houses and buildings.
