Blakesley Hall was constructed in 1590 for Richard Smalbroke, a Birmingham merchant and gentleman farmer. The Hall is a timber-framed building, with a 17th century brick kitchen extension. The house is furnished using an inventory taken in the 17th century and reflects the lifestyle of a wealthy family of the late Tudor and Stuart period of English history.
This delightfully restored building is set in landscaped grounds including herb gardens, and the site has a new visitor centre, complete with tearoom and shop. Other facilities include toilets, coach parking and a refurbished classroom. Onsite security has also been improved.
The residence is open to schools throughout the year and a wide variety of cross-curricular activities and study sessions are available to Birmingham schoolchildren at all Key Stages. This includes work involving history, drama, maths and technology.
