The industrial pioneer Matthew Boulton lived at Soho House from 1766 to 1809. Here, he met with some of the most important scientists, engineers and thinkers of the era - the Lunar Society. Possibly the first centrally heated English house since Roman times, Soho House has been carefully restored to its 18th century appearance and contains some of Boulton's own furniture.
In the visitor centre next to Soho House is a community history gallery with a changing programme of exhibitions and activities. Displays tell the story of this fascinating man and the interests he shared with his famous visitors, including members of the Lunar Society.
The residence has good disabled access and an ample car park. There is a gift shop and an attractive tearoom. Soho House contains a wealth of history and a visit is both insightful and inspiring.
