Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery combines a 16th century timber framed warehouse and a 17th century brick mansion. The Corporation of Shrewsbury acquired the timber-framed building in the 1930s to display excavated material from the Roman city of Viroconium (Uriconium) at Wroxeter
The displays within the museum include costume and decorative arts, geology, roman and medieval galleries. Special exhibitions in contrast often feature contemporary artists and current issues making a visit a rewarding and stimulating experience.
This museum contains something for everybody; it is also in close vicinity to a number of other regional attractions. The Museum has achieved Full Registration in Phase 2 of the Museums & Galleries Commission Museum Registration Scheme.
