The museum displays a significant part of the collection of the forming regiments of the Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment. As with any registered museum the collection is restricted by its trust deeds to artefacts from the regular, militia and volunteer infantry units of Berkshire and Wiltshire.
The collection is displayed in four rooms, all on the ground floor. The display is presently arranged chronologically from the mid 18th century up to 1994.
The Wardrobe Museum was created from the museums of the two forming regiments, The Royal Berkshire Regiment and The Wiltshire Regiment. The Royal Berkshire Regiment had its museum in Brock Barracks, on the Oxford Road in Reading, Berkshire.
