Kensington Gardens is a formal park encompassing 275acres of majestic trees, ornamental flowerbeds, tranquil Italian gardens, the Albert Memorial, two playgrounds, a café and the Serpentine Art Gallery. The gardens are particularly popular with joggers, cyclists and picnickers and sunbathers, as deckchairs are available for hire from April to September.
Kensington Gardens is predominantly used as a tranquil refuge from city life and games are discouraged. However The Princess Diana Memorial Park attracts thousands of children who enjoy playing for free on the sensory trail, in the teepees, inside the pirate ship playground and the various toys and play sculptures surrounded by trees, with plenty of seating so the grownups can relax too.
Kensington Palace is located in the Gardens and people are drawn to the charming bronze statue of Peter Pan. There is a 7 mile memorial walk which traverses through some of the other royal parks and a statue of Queen Victoria stands outside the palace. Tours of the Albert Memorial are available and a number of guided walks take place in the park.
The Broadwalk Café & Playcafé, are open 8am-8pm in the summer and 10am-4pm in the winter and serve a selection of pizzas, wraps and deserts, as well as a children's menu. Refreshment points are located at The Italian Gardens and The Albert Memorial serving ice creams and hot and cold snacks.
