The Prince Albert Memorial located in London's Kensington Gardens was erected soon after his death to typhoid in order to highlight the British public's deep sense of loss. The memorial is one of the most prolific examples of high-Victorian gothic extravaganza anywhere in the country.
At each corner of the memorial marble figures depict Europe, Asia, Africa and America, further figures higher up represent manufacture, commerce, agriculture and engineering and near the top are gilded bronze statues of the angels and virtues.
The tour allows you exclusive access within the railings, so that you can appreciate the craftsmanship of the 187 exquisitely carved figures in the frieze up close. Alberts love of the arts is celebrated by the friezes depicting celebrated painters, poets sculptors, musicians and architects.
Public tours take place at 2pm and 3pm every first Sunday of the month from March to December. Groups of up to 15 can be accommodated on the public tour by prior arrangement or groups can have their own exclusive tour at almost any time during park opening hours.
