The Serpentine Gallery, located in Kensington Gardens is one of London's favourite galleries for modern and contemporary art, attracting over 590,000 visitors a year to its exhibition, architecture, education and public programmes and the best bit is its all free and open daily from 10am - 6pm.

The gallery showcases a diverse range of art using all types of medium, from short films to installations, photography to paintings. Permanent work by artist and poet Ian Hamilton Finaly is on display, which comprises eight benches, a tree-plaque, and a carved stone circle at the entrance to the gallery.

The Serpentine will take up residence in Battersea Power Station with a presentation of Chinese culture from 8 Oct - 5 Nov 06 and Conditional Probability, a new 16mm film installation by artist and filmmaker Runa Islam runs from 25 Oct - 5 Nov 06.

A number of talks and events take place and every year a Serpentine Gallery Pavilion is designed by an exceptional architect. The education programme gives students an innovative way to engage with modern art through workshops, events and projects and teachers notes are available to accompany all exhibitions.
