Richmond Park is the largest Royal Park in London, encompassing 2,500 acres of woodlands, ponds and gardens, housing 650 free roaming deer. The park is a dedicated National Nature Reserve and a Special Area of Conservation, abundant with wildlife and scarcely changed over the centuries.
The park has a varied range of facilities, including a playground at Petersham Gate and educational facilities for those with special needs at Holly Lodge. There are a range of eateries, disabled toilets, six car parks and a variety of sporting facilities covering everything from horse-riding to rugby or just enjoy having an informal kick about with friends.
Take advantage of the cycle paths or use the rugged landscape for orienteering, cross-country running or power kiting. There are three rugby pitches, with a clubhouse and changing rooms, also used for polo. Play a round on the 18-hole golf course or practice at the 16-bay driving range and pro shop or fish by permit only in the pen ponds, open 16 June-14 Mar.
Pembroke Lodge is an elegant Georgian mansion, with banqueting facilities for up to 130 people with garden seating, facilities for children and an alcohol license. Roehampton Café open daily from 9am to 5pm serves a selection of hot and cold snacks, as do the refreshment points located at Isabella and Pen Pound car parks.
