Anne of Cleves House is a 16th century timber-framed Wealden hall-house that formed part of Anne's divorce settlement from Henry VIII in 1541. The house contains wide-ranging collections of Sussex interest, including Sussex pottery, and the bedroom and kitchen are furnished to reflect an earlier period.

Other displays feature Lewes from the 16th century to the present day and the Wealden ironwork gallery has artefacts from firebacks and cannon to boot-scrapers and chimney backs, illustrating this influential Sussex industry.

Anne of Cleves House is located just south of the town centre in Southover High Street; about seven minutes walk from the railway station. Lewes is easily accessed from the A27, A26 and A275. Drivers using the A27 should enter the town from the eastern end of the Lewes by-pass via the Cuilfail Tunnel. Regular trains from Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings and London serve Lewes railway station.

Details

Weddings: Wedding ceremonies can take place in the East Room with its beams, leaded light windows and huge Elizabethan fireplace. Candles and flowers give the room a romantic look at any time of the year. In winter the log fire gives a warm glow to the room.
