The history of Bentley is fascinating and a special exhibition has been dedicated to this insight into the past. The houses interior is full of luxuriant colour and gilt furniture and provides insight into the wealth and prosperity that once existed here.
The dining room exemplifies the eye for colour and decorative, painted furniture that is seen throughout the house. It is one of the old rooms as the low beams show. The table is a 17th century oak farmhouse piece, whilst the chairs are 18th century Venetian.
The beautiful gardens contain two lovely species of trees, Ginkgo Biloba and Swamp Cypress that stand in front of the house. A series of 'rooms' with yew hedges as a reflection of the house run throughout the grounds. The layout is formal but the planning informal. Bentley House and Garden is a delightful attraction that is well worth a visit.
