Spring Bluff Railway Station is one of Australia's prettiest and most historic railway stations. It nestles in a glorious hillside setting where the main rail line makes its winding way up the steep gradient of the Great Dividing Range to Toowoomba.
In 1914 Queensland Railways launched a garden competition to encourage railway staff to beautify the stations and grow vegetables. This challenge was embraced by the then station master and his wife who created a magnificent garden of Iceland poppies, roses, bulbous flowers, azaleas, sweet peas and tulips. The station master continued on maintaining and restoring the gardens for over 30 years between 1962 and 1998.
Since then, several restorations have been completed and the garden is again a beautiful attraction.
