Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery

The walls of the Norwich castle have seen some outrageously wild days! A world of contrast, from it's early days of construction 900 years ago by the Normans as a Royal palace, to its later use as a prison in the 14th century and following that, its transforamation into a museum in 1894.

Now the Castle is the County's principle museum and is laden with fascinating and bizarre treasures to inspire and intrigue visitors of all ages. The museum is far from a collection of dusty display cases. Norwich Castle has one of Britain's most important collections of Anglo-Saxon treasures and Viking galleries. The ancient Egyptian gallery sends visitors even further back in time and for the art lovers - you will be well fed by the museum's outstanding collections of fine art.
