Carlyle's House managed by the National Trust is a shrine to the Victorian writer and thinker Thomas Carlyle and his wife Jane, one of the finest 19th-century women of letters. The residence was once the hub of the Victorian literary society, attracting the likes of Dickens, Tennyson and Ruskin.
This classic Queen Anne house, still retains many period features and contains Carlyles' furniture, books, pictures and personal possessions, combined with portraits and memorabilia collected by devotees. The house has a tranquil walled garden offering a relaxing haven, just minutes from the hubbub of Kings Road.
