Being one of the five colleges within Cambridge University, the rambling and sordid history of the King's College is a fascinating study in itself. In 1441, after bulldozing half of Medieval Cambridge (in a quest for grandeur) the college was founded by Henry VI. Henry's plans were ambitious and all encompassing, though after various bouts of royal insanity and rivalry - little was actually achieved. Three hundred years slipped away before Henry's great court was even started!
