A 19th century engineering masterpiece, The Zig Zag Railway in Lithgow is a well known tourist rail line winding its way through the breathtakingly beautiful Blue Mountains.

Climb aboard to enjoy a relaxed, informative tour on the heritage Queensland Rail Motors or stean train and discover more about the history and workings of the railway.

Located at Clarence, 10km east of Lithgow, the line was built in the 1860s to transport people and produce from the western plains of NSW to Sydney.

Details

Location: The Zig Zag railway lies on the western side of the Blue Mountains about 10 km East of Lithgow along The Bells Line of Road. Clarence Station is the access point for passengers arriving by road because it has no main line railway connection. The Railway is well signposted at Mount Victoria on the Great Western Highway and at Bell on Chifley Road. There is plenty of parking space at Clarence. Travel time from central Sydney is approximately 2.5 hours.
Further Information: Please note: Zig Zag operates between Clarence and Bottom Points. Trains leave Clarence daily at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm. (except Christmas Day). Some additional services run on special event days.
