Designed by George Temple-Poole, built of local stone and opened in 1895 the building is presently owned by the National Trust. The Courtrooms are still used by the Court of Petty Sessions.

The museum displays the postal history of York which began in 1840. The museum includes; stamp displays, an original telephone exchange switchboard in demonstration order, and an original barometer for weather readings, and many more interesting items to view. Opening times: Everyday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Open on Public Holidays, closed Christmas day, Boxing and new Years Day. Opening times can be subject to change.
