The Great Hall is the only lasting remains of the Winchester Castle that was destroyed by ruthless Oliver Cromwell.

Despite being a magical castle founded by William the Conqueror in 1067, the greatest claim to fame of this fine establishment is its purpose of housing King Arthur's Round Table for around 600 years. Rumours have it that this was actually a fake, but the story sounds pretty impressive!

The site had a wonderfully dramatic history. Post William the Conqueror; the castle was fortified by a succession of kings to follow. Previously used as a court, the trial of Sir Walter Raleigh took place here in 1603.
