Mother Shiptons Cave

Mother Shiptons Caves are situated in the forests of the peaceful town of Knaresborough in North Yorkshire.

Mother Shipton lived 500 years ago during the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, becoming famous for her prophetic visions, which became feared throughout the country. Mother Shipton was born in the cave, which is situated near the geological phenomenon of The Petrifying Well, which was believed to have miraculous healing properties.

Visitors are able to explore the Mother Shipton Estate and view the cave and Petrifying Well. The sight hosts a range of facilities including a children's play area, refreshments, picnic area, wishing well, and museum.
