The Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban, is a centre of worship and mission, with a world renowned musical tradition, and a highly regarded Education Centre. 55 full and part time staff and over 1000 volunteers support the work of the cathedral.
These volunteers work in a very wide range of areas from bell ringing, youth work and flower arranging to welcoming visitors, clearing tables in the refectory café and making music.
The cathedral is built on what is believed to be the site of the martyrdom of St Alban. The hill on which it stands, overlooks the valley of the river Ver, and is where the buried ruins of the Roman city of Verulamium lie.
