In the mid 1970s, a small group of Island residents led by Jim Dorman formed the Lord Howe Island Historical Society to encourage the preservation of valuable artifacts, photographs documents and collections relating to Lord Howe's cultural and natural history.

Lord Howe Island Historical Society Museum includes a rich range of resources, and will host a range of events on Lord Howe Island. Lord Howe Island Historical Society Museum consider themselves an essential place to visit once on the island, and a valuable developing asset to Lord Howe Island.

Presentations on geology, birds, flora and fauna, history and marine life by Ian Hutton and Chris Murray. 5.00-6.00pm Sun, Mon, Tue, Thu & Fri.

Details

History: In May 2003 Jim Dorman received the Order of Australia for his dedication in establishing the first museum and the successful rebuilding of this facility between 1998 and 2002. Sadly Jim passed away shortly after in July 2003. and the Museum remains a testimony to his determined efforts.

The museum is full of interesting history photos etc. From the first settlers, Catalina flying boats, extinct animals and the history of the volcano that Lord Howe Island is. Meals at the Coral Cafe in the museum are beautiful and the chocolate thick shakes are the best ... Read More
