The Clock Tower and the Eleanor Cross are located in the heart of St Albans, Historic city, the cross is situated opposite, Waxhouse Gate, one of the entrances to the medieval Abbey. Behind the cross is the Clock Tower, the only medieval example in the country.
The cross was put up in, 1290 and pulled down in 1703, to be replaced by the towns pump. The clock tower was built, between 1403 and 1412, and was first restored in 1864, and again in 2006.
Guided tours can be arranged, for parties of 10 or more, and the Tower is included in the medieval and Tudor school sessions, at the Museum of St. Albans.
