The Angel of the North is one of the twelve official 'Icons of England', situated in Gateshead in the North East.
Gateshead Council created the landmark sculpture to welcome visitors to Tyneside. The angel stands at 20 meters, with a wingspan of 54 meters. The angel is made from a resistant steal containing copper, which oxidises over time leading to a rich red/brown colour.
The Angel of the North has become a major attraction in the North East with over 150,000 visitors a year. The site hosts 15 parking spaces and the hill is a popular destination for sledges when it snows.
