Falkland has been a royal palace since the days of the Stewarts. King James II adopted it as a royal home and it was used as a hunting lodge in the 12th century. The Palace is now administered by the National Trust for Scotland and all the rooms in the South Range have been furnished in an appropriate manner.
Garden enthusiasts will appreciate the beautiful garden surrounding the Palace, there are colourful herbaceous borders, lush green lawns and many unusual shrubs and trees, as well as a small herb garden.
The restoration of the Palace, the crafts shops, weavers cottage, restaurants and hotels all contribute towards the wonderful village.
A world away from Wimbledon is the Royal Tennis Court, built in 1539. This is Britain's oldest tennis court, which today is home to a flourishing local royal tennis club.
