The Cochrane Theatre was opened in 1964 and is now owned by the University of the Arts London. The theatre unites five of the world's most famous colleges of art, design and communication, as a receiving and producing house, which showcases all aspects of the performing arts.
The Cochrane challenges the preconceptions of space and theatre definitions, in order to encourage audiences to experience a diverse range of live theatre that embraces new technologies alongside the fundamentals, through a programme of comedy, dance, drama and opera.
The ground-level auditorium is tiered and seats 314, with the ability to accommodate people in wheelchairs. The Stage is an 8x8.5m performing space with a sprung floor and a counter-weight flying system and the orchestra pit can house up to 20 musicians.
Within the theatre there is a gallery, featuring changing exhibitions that is free to enter and is usually open Monday-Friday, 10-6 and during performances outside these times. A licensed bar opens one hour prior to performances, where you can relax with a pre or post show drink.
