Bleakhouse is located high in the cliffs at Broadstairs on the coast of Kent. This mansion is known far and wide as the seaside residence of the great novelist, Charles Dickens.

Dickens wrote the greater part of his most famous novel, David Copperfield. Here and he played with his children in the garden. Here he entertained his intimate friends, men famous in literature and art. This was the house that occupied a special place in his heart. This was the house that inspired the title of one of his greatest works - Bleak House.

The residence is a common pilgrimage sight for lovers of Dickens's work and this beautiful property is steeped in history, as is the village of Broadstairs. There area number of attractions located nearby and a number of café's and restaurants.

"Just below 'Bleak House', on the point that runs out to form the harbour, is the Tartar Frigate, the cosiest little sailor's inn, selling the strongest of tobacco and the strongest smelling rum that is to be met with around the coast. Close by is a rope house decorated with wonderful figureheads." Dickens 1870
