Mont Orgueil Castle, more commonly known as Gorey Castle, towers over Gorey Harbour and was built in the 13th century to protect the Island against the French and is one of the most photographed landmarks on Jersey.
Mt Orugeil is one of the best preserved castles in Britain and makes a perfect back-drop for medieval drama and re-enactment. On a clear day the spectacular views over the island, reach across the sea to France.
Although the historic remains are the main focal point, soft landscaping and native plant cover produces important habitat for a variety of species, in particular wall lizards, as well as a setting for the Castle.
A range of events take place at the castle including: Medieval & Tudor Hawking with the Mont Orgueil Falconers, English Civil War swordsman and Mont Orgueil Archers from April to September. Take a step back in time with The Dukes Leopards and story tellers throughout July and September.
