Kentish Town City Farm was the first of its kind to be established. As such, it played an important historical role and acted as a model in the development of the City Farm movement as a whole.
The farm is an educational and recreational project that developed out of the needs of local people. Initiated in 1972, through the medium of an existing community group, it has provided animals, gardening space, horse riding, and a focus for youth, education, and community work for thousands of users per year. It covers four and a half acres and uses some original buildings from the time the railways were built.
As a working farm, stock is constantly changing due to the breeding program and sale of animals. There is always however, a traditional farm stock of cows, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry and horses. There are excellent disabled facilities and farm tours can be organised with prior arrangement.
