The Old Crown is so now. A genuine one-off, designed and lived in by the innovative team who own and run it, it's not only anti big-brands, but anti-branding... the pub's name isn't even written outside. But the effort of finding the right door pays off as soon as you walk into this tall-ceilinged wonderland of reclaimed chandeliers, stools that were once railway sleepers, hand-crafted wooden tables and a restored church spire finial. Equally strong ethics are found on the pages of the leather-bound menu books where you'll find gorgeous organic dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients from independent wholesalers. King of the meaty meals is a huge Argentinean rib-eye steak served with Cafe de Paris butter, roast shallots and fries, closely followed by the princely house burger. The menu changes (at least) weekly, but unusually, so do the marvellous cocktail and wine lists. What's more, the place opens at 6am Saturday and Sunday to serve champagne breakfasts to just-finished-work ClAverage price - Under £25 (€35)
