The Open Eye Gallery promotes the practice, enjoyment and understanding of photography. The Gallery seeks to develop a community of interest in the medium, and to enrich audiences' experience of photography through artistic programmes that are distinctive, innovative and challenging.
Whilst photography is at the heart of our artistic programmes, there is a range of media, including film, video and installation. Programmes also include occasional historical exhibitions that look back with particular interest at work that exerts a strong influence on contemporary practice. Through exhibitions, publications, projects and events the aim is to present the photographic image in a rich context of critical and historical debate.
In the current premises there is a gallery space of approximately 100m2, in which hosts, on average, six exhibitions per year. In addition to the gallery programme there are off-site exhibitions and projects. Appearing in various shapes and sizes, these projects seek to develop dynamic relationships between art, artists and audiences beyond the gallery. The gallery is located within the heart of Liverpool city centre with ample parking close by. If you are travelling by bus or by train, stations and bus stops are only seconds away.
